Your sound can be:

• An USB Midi keyboard.
• A Midi normal keyboard ,on the sound card game port.
• An external keyboard or piano, or an sound in which know to locate the notes
• The PC keyboard or mouse in last instance.

Mine is M-AUDIO keystation 49-e, (100 Euros). It's USB with 4 octaves and large keys, volume slider, octave selector and pitch-modulation wheels. Besides XP and Linux Ubuntu recognize it automatically. In Windows 2000,98,... because it is USB you must install the keyboard driver.
This piano have touch sensibility, so you must press very strong the keys to hear up. Sensibility it's off by default on EasyMid.

Locating the notes. First it is located C, that is to the left of the groups of two black notes, and then the following white one is D, E,.... The black keys are #. The black one to the right of C is C#, the black key to the right of D is D#.... Usually the pianos have the letter printed over the key, so it will be easy to find the key from the letter.
This piano have 4 C, so it has four octaves. When one octave ends on B another one starts on C
